Summer Picnic Ideas!

My son had requested we go on a picnic (listed on our Summer "to do" list.). As we were discussing what we should take on our picnic, he asked where our "picnic blanket" was. I was about to tell him we'd just a grab a sheet, but he proceeded to ask "a picnic blanket, with red and white squares??" Oops. My 7 year old is very particular about how things should be done (that seems to be the norm with most children I've met with autism). I suppose he's probably seen red and white checker board printed picnic blankets on tv (Not really sure how that got branded as a "picnic blanket" lol), but alas, I had to find one. I tried looking at various places, but couldn't find a cloth picnic blanket like he wanted. While browsing through Target, I was lucky enough to find a plastic (single use) one in their dollar section. I still have to find a picnic basket (If anyone knows where to find an inexpensive one I'd love to hear recommendations), but maybe I can get away with just an open wicker basket. Now to planning our picnic!

I was thinking of maybe making some cute pressed sandwiches. "Seasons & Suppers" has some has a neat recipe I plan on trying, you can find the recipe here (along with some other really great looking food). I wanted to make a pasta salad (My cousin Mari makes an awesome salad, so I'll probably just use her recipe.), I'll grab some pops from the world market, and make some kind of pastry. I'm thinking banana bread and some cookies? I haven't been on a picnic forever, but I'll be sure to take some stale bread to feed the ducks near the pond<3

 Picnic checklist:
  • Basket
  • Blanket
  • Sandwiches
  • Pasta Salad
  • Cheese & Grapes
  • Banana Bread
  • Sugar Cookies
  • Pop/ Lemonade
  • Plates
  • Utensills
  • Napkins
  • Stale Bread (Feeding ducks)
  • Sushi for mama {maybe lol.}

One less thing off of our summer list!

What do you have planned as summer ends?

  1. I want to go! :) You know what? That's how I pictured picnics when I was little. In books and in cartoons, they always used that blanket. I remember going on a picnic when I was 7 and was disappointed because there wasn't a picnic basket in sight and told my mom that it wasn't a picnic! I was also mad because we ate on picnic benches and not ON a blanket. Kids are so particular, hahaha.
